With so many wedding photographers and different styles of photography to choose from it can be hard to know where to start. Your wedding photographs are one of the few memories that last long after the wedding day so its important to be sure to choose the right photographer.
I’ve made a list of the most common questions that may be on your mind in the hope that it makes things a little easier and allows you to get to know a little more about how I work.
What style of wedding photography do you offer?
Relaxed, fun and romantic with nothing too posed or cheesy! I have an informal and lighthearted approach to my photography. My aim is to capture your story, your day from beginning to end as it really happened. For the most part of the day I will photograph in a documentary/reportage style, capturing the real moments as they unfold. I like to observe rather than direct the events of your day.
What length of photography coverage/packages do you offer?
My most popular package includes a full days coverage, which starts with the bridal preparations through to the first few dances. I also offer half-day packages, which start with the ceremony through to the start of the wedding breakfast. Understanding that every wedding is unique, I’m more than happy to offer a customised package to suit your individual requirements.
Do you take formal family photographs?
I suggest shooting a small amount of family group photographs, as these images are important to most couples and families. I do however aim to keep the family photographs to a max of 20 mins, so you’re not away from your guests for too long.
How many images do we receive and how do we get them?
With all of my packages you will receive a USB stick of high resolution images that you can print from as you wish. The amount of images you will receive is dependent on the amount of coverage you require. With the full day package you can expect to receive 400+ images, professionally retouched by myself. Images will also be uploaded onto an online gallery, which is password protected available to you and your wedding guests only.
Do you offer albums?
Albums are the perfect way to compliment your wedding photography. I offer storybook style albums, which are designed to show off your whole day from start to end. The albums contain around 100 of your favourite images spread over 50 pages. I personally design the albums myself and show you each stage of the design process, welcoming your input into the design and image choice.
Can we arrange a pre-wedding session?
I love to shoot pre-wedding/engagement sessions. Not only will you get a great set of images but this gives us an opportunity to get to know each other, for me to get to know your tastes and style and for you to relax in front of the camera in preparation for the big day. You pick the location, somewhere special to yourselves – maybe where you got engaged or just somewhere you particularly like.
Is it yourself that will be taking our wedding photographs? Do you have a second photographer?
I personally shoot all the weddings myself as well as the post processing and album design, this way I can insure a fully personalised service. I often provide a second photographer, which enables us to shoot from different angles and be in two places at once providing two perspectives of your celebrations. A second photographer may be recommended for larger weddings.
What are your qualifications?
I studied photography for 4 years at Edinburgh College resulting in a Degree Level Professional Development Award in Photography. I’m also a fully qualified member of the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP).
What happens if you’re ill on the day?
If I’m unlucky to be too ill to shoot your wedding, I have a great network of photographers that can step in to cover for me. My network consists of professional full time wedding photographers that shoot in a very similar style to myself each of which I trust dearly to do a great job.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, I am fully insured for Public Liability and Professional Indemnity. As well as this all my equipment is covered for loss and damage.
What locations do you cover?
I’m based in Fife and cover weddings mainly within the Edinburgh area however I’m happy to photograph your wedding wherever it is taking place. However, I do have to charge for travel if your wedding is further than 50 miles from Edinburgh.
Do you offer any mid-week, off peak, small wedding discounts?
Yes, I’m happy to offer discounts for weddings taking place mid-week (Mondays to Thursdays). Likewise if you’re having a particularly small wedding I’m happy to discuss a discounted rate.
Can we meet you before making a booking?
Yes, I meet with most couples before making a booking; this gives you a chance to find out more about me and how I work. It’s also important for me to find out more about you and your wedding day to make sure I’m the right photographer you. Where possible we meet again 1 to 2 months prior to your wedding date to discuss the timings and finer details.
What is required to make a booking?
If you wish to make a booking I require a 25% booking fee along with a signed contract that will secure my time and services for your day. I only shoot a select number of weddings each year and work on a first come first served basis.
