A Little Summer Edinburgh Wedding

Shannon & Stuart tied the knot at Edinburgh’s Lothian Chambers. Shannon is from the States and with her family unable to attend they opted for a small ceremony with just a few members of Stuart’s family present. After having viewed my recent wedding of Maureen & Keith at the Lothian Chambers Shannon & Stuart knew they wanted a similar set of images. It was a joy to photograph this lovely couple as we explored Edinburgh’s most scenic areas, the Royal Mile, Princes Street gardens and Arthurs Seat. The weather was on our side and it was a lovely day with Princes Street Gardens in full bloom.

Balbirnie House

Mhairi & Yaasir had the most perfect day at Balbirnie House, the sun shone and allowed for the ceremony to be held outside. It was a while since I’d met Mhairi & Yaasir, the last time being their pre-wedding shoot on Carlton Hill so it was great to catch up again. I’ve shot many weddings at Balbirnie House and it still remains to be one of my favourite venues to work at, its beautiful gardens provide a lovely backdrop for photographs, large light reception rooms, as well this the team at Balbirnie ensures each wedding day runs like clockwork meaning you can relax in knowledge that your day will run smoothly.

There’s a few of the suppliers which Mhairi & Yaasir used to create their day…

A Blackford Hill pre-wedding shoot

I’m delighted to share with you a few images from Gemma & David’s pre-wedding shoot. A few months back we ventured up Blackford Hill which is one of Gemma & David’s favourite parts of Edinburgh.

Doing a pre-wedding shoot is a great opportunity to get a feel for what it will be like on your wedding day. It allows you relax in front of camera and see what is expected of you, helping to take the pressure off on your big day. It lasts around an hour and takes place in a location of your choice, this can be somewhere special to you perhaps where you got engaged, somewhere you like to visit at the weekends or I’m happy to recommend some of the many scenic areas I know. Its also a good chance for us get to know each other, your wedding photographer is with you all day on one of the most important days of your lives so its nice to know we get on and you feel comfortable with me. It’s a good time for me to hear more about your plans and ideas for your big day which in turn allows me to personalise the photography to suit you. As well as this you receive a lovely set of portraits of yourselves which you can then use as you wish, perhaps for your wedding guest book, invites or table plans…

Pre-wedding shoot on a windy day

It’s been over a year since I photographed Judith’s brother’s wedding so it was great to catch up again and hear more about their special day. Jude and Tommy love the views over the forth so it was a great location choice for their pre-wedding session.

It was rather cold and windy but the sun made an appearance for us to capture these lovely set of images.

Jude and Tommy are to be married this summer at the Cannongate Kirk followed by the MacDonald Holyrood Hotel.

Margaret & Simon’s Spring Wedding

I knew I was going to enjoy this day after having caught up with Margaret & Simon a few weeks before to shoot their pre-wedding session. Margaret & Simon’s day was utterly gorgeous – a lovely couple – clearly made for each other, surrounded by their families and friends some of whom they had not seen in years, a beautiful dress by Alan Hannah, pretty bridesmaids in yellow dresses and spring inspired flowers.

It’s not usual for me to get a little emotional during a ceremony and this was no exception, Margaret’s mothers singing brought tears to my eyes.

The venue, Balbirnie House was such a pleasure to work at, the staff are very friendly and attentive and made the whole day run like clockwork. I look forward to shooting here again in May.

A few weeks prior to the wedding Margaret & Simon headed down to Coburg Studios in Leith to make their own wedding rings. I had heard of this before but didn’t really know too much about it. You are assisted by jewellers Donna Barry & Hannah Louise Lamb in their professional jewellery workshop as they guide you through step by step to help create your very own one-off, unique wedding rings. Click here to see Margaret & Simon in action. On another note if you haven’t yet been to Coburg Studios I highly recommend popping down on one of their open days to see what wonderful artistry goes on.
